Zeno — Transforming Addiction Recovery Into a Premium Cosmic Journey

Overview

Zeno is a mobile app for addiction recovery that turns a difficult personal journey into an immersive, premium cosmic experience.
The product combines a fast daily check-in, therapeutic mini-games, supportive 3D characters and an anonymous avatar system into one empathetic space for people in recovery.
Our goal was to transform a raw idea into a living, breathing mobile app that respects the user's journey while delivering an Apple-level visual experience.

The Challenge

The client came with an ambitious idea and concepts and wireframes entirely generated by AI. The screens were flat, overloaded with cold, military-style jargon like "Biometric Feedback," and ignored the user's cognitive load. For someone in recovery, the interface felt more like an interrogation than a safe space.
Our market analysis showed two extremes: sterile apps that feel like medical records, and cheap habit trackers relying on primitive emojis. The niche needed a premium solution.
The hardest UX task was psychological: asking about relapses, triggers and cravings without causing guilt, and packing a multi-layered check-in into a flow that takes exactly 15 seconds.

Our Approach

We focused on engineering empathy into every screen.
We humanized "Biometric Feedback" into a supportive "Daily Check-in" and pushed back against placing a red relapse button on the main dashboard. Instead, that action lives safely inside a dedicated Support menu, keeping the dashboard positive and growth-oriented.
We also reworked the product's language to match the cosmic world, turning heavy metaphors into intuitive UI patterns. Visually, we lifted flat 2D cards into a cohesive spatial architecture with optical balance and subtle glassmorphism, so the UI floats within the 3D cosmic environment.

UX/UI Design Solution

15-Second Daily Check-in

Craving intensity became the "Gravitational Pull" slider, with a color-coded tension scale from a cool "Calm" to a warm "Critical Thrust." Dynamic choice chips for the daily "Sector Scan" let users log triggers in milliseconds, without feeling judged.

22 Therapeutic Mini-Games

A library of custom cognitive breaks in three categories: the Distraction Engine for intercepting acute cravings, Mindful Calibration for breath sync and anxiety reduction, and the Tactile Sandbox for physics-based stress relief.

Avatars & Characters

Clay-style 3D avatars, from aliens and astronauts to plant-lovers, act as anonymity shields, so users stay private without losing personality. A cast of mascots supports the journey: Zeno the guide, Nova the ship's AI who runs check-ins and stats, and the Demon, a visible form of cravings users can confront and overcome.

Spatial UI Components

Glassmorphic HUD notifications give rewarding feedback without breaking immersion, and planet progression states ("Locked," "In Progress," "Unlocked") turn recovery milestones into glowing achievements in the galaxy.

Deliverables:

Market & Competitor Analysis
UX Redesign of AI-Generated Wireframes
Mobile App UX/UI Design
15-Second Daily Check-in Flow
22 Mini-Game Concepts
3D Avatars & Character Design
Design System & Component Library in Figma

Outcome

Zeno turned a soulless AI draft into a premium, empathetic recovery app that respects the user at every step. The dashboard stays positive, check-ins take seconds, and characters and games keep users engaged over months of recovery.
A visual system built on rounded Nunito typography and a tactile "digital clay" palette of deep space violets with warm energy accents keeps the experience calm, safe and recognizable.
