Responsive Website for Social Good

I recently completed a project focusing on designing a user experience to address the challenges faced by first-generation immigrants in understanding proposed bills affecting their families. The objective was to create an accessible platform to keep these users informed, engaged, and empowered in the political process. The product incorporated features such as search functionality, filters, and notifications to enhance user experience.

I conducted comprehensive user research, including interviews, surveys, and focus groups, to understand the unique needs and pain points of first-generation immigrants. The research revealed language barriers, the complexity of political information, limited information access, and a lack of knowledge about political systems as key challenges.

Four personas were created, representing different immigrant backgrounds, each with specific problem statements. User journey maps were developed for each persona to guide the design process, emphasizing accessibility and empowerment.

The design phase involved creating a sitemap, paper and digital wireframes, and low-fidelity prototypes. These were iteratively refined based on usability studies conducted on both the mobile app and responsive website. Feedback from participants highlighted the importance of features like previous bill history, easy access to news, and well-organized resource sections.

Mockups were created for the desktop and mobile versions, focusing on consistency, simplicity, and accessibility. High-fidelity prototypes for the mobile app and responsive website were developed, incorporating clear navigation and user-friendly layouts.

Accessibility considerations, such as color contrast, proper header usage, and alt text for non-text elements, were integrated into the design to ensure inclusivity.

The final product aims to empower first-generation immigrants by providing clear information and creating an easy-to-use interface. Positive feedback received during usability studies and from peers underscores the platform's impact.
