Project and Goals

This project was for a graphic design class at my university. The goal of this was to use chatGPT to create a random company with random requirements and a logo that aligns with said brand. Included are a client brief, a word map, a mood board, 15+ logo sketches, 10 vector logos, and my top 5 logos.

Client Brief

Company Name

Brewly

Industry

They sell coffee, tea, and similar beverages, along with flavour syrups. They also sell mugs and travel mugs, and their website has a section for different drink recipes.

Selling Point

Good coffee at a great price.

Target Audience

This brand is targeted to a broad audience but is for people who want a good cup of coffee but don’t want to break the bank. This includes university students, families, and young professionals.

Price Point

CHEAP! $8-10 for a bag of coffee beans. Less than $5 for a bag of tea.

Style Preferences

This brand has a playful vibe, with fun colours, while still maintaining a down-to-earth feel that is recognizable across coffee brands. There should be an emphasis on the overall love for coffee and the coffee community.

Word Map

This word map shows my creative process. By finding words that align with the brand's image, I can then find other words that can connect the brand to a broader image for design purposes. This allows me to have a clear idea of what elements to consider when creating a brand logo.

Logo Sketches

These are sketches of logo ideas I get from the word map. These are not the final product but a rough outline of ideas. Typically, I sketch out 20-30 ideas, and I try to include different types of logos, such as mascots, wordmarks, abstract marks, monograms, and combination marks. I typically draw these on my iPad or sketchbook; however, for this project, inspiration struck me while I was at work, and I sketched the majority of these logo ideas on a napkin.

Mood Board

This step typically happens anytime during the creative process. Mood boards allow me to put myself in the headspace of the target audience by thinking of moods, atmosphere, and colours associated with the starting idea. From this, I can get an idea for colour palettes, typography, textures, and other images that align with the brand identity. I create mood boards using websites like Pexles, Unsplash, and Pinterest; however, these photos are not meant to be used in production as they are often under copyright.

Final Vector Logos

These are the final vector logos, five of which will be pitched to the client. They draw upon elements from my mood board and sketches while keeping in mind the needs of the client as outlined in the client brief. Typically, multiple versions of 3-5 logos would be pitched. However, this project was to display my creativity and familiarity with Adobe Illustrator.

Created a logo based on the client's needs. This project shows my creative process and how I strive to communicate the company's goals through visual elements.
