Overview 🔎
Art Gallery features new and upcoming artists from around the world.
It offers artists a platform to showcase their work.
The app targets art lovers who want to preview an exhibit before going to visit the gallery.
My role: UX designer designing an app for Art Gallery from conception to delivery. My responsabilities included: conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
Problem & Solution 🤝
People want to preview an exhibit before going to an art gallery.
Goals/Requirements: Design an app for the art gallery that • Allows users to take a virtual tour • Easily book a visit to the art gallery. • Showcase new and upcoming artists
Process 🛣
I created an online survey, conducted virtual interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary group identified through research was creative professionals that want to visit free or paid exhibits but don’t like to follow a tour guide.
The user group initially confirm assumptions about the gallery’s customers, but research also revealed that flexibility was not the only factor limiting users to visit an art exhibit.
Other users problems included small reading signs, crowded and noisy spaces, accessibility for wheelchairs and in-line waiting time when visiting a gallery in person.
Results 🎁
Early designs allowed for some customization, but after the usability studies, I added an option to “Book a visit” right after users take the virtual tour.
I also revised the designs so users see the featured “Virtual tour” when they first land on the screen.
The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flow for taking a virtual tour and booking a visit to the art gallery.
One user reported:

The design is so smooth and light, it makes me want to go and visit that place.” 🗣

Takeaways 📣
While designing the art gallery app, I learned that people love to see art and they are willing to try new ways to enjoy it. Art not only lives in museums , and art galleries make art accessible to everyone, and help artist showcase themselves. Having an app helps art businesses reach an international audience.
