Begra’s new 3D Configurator is a cutting-edge sales automation tool designed to streamline the ordering process for Heavy Duty Shelving Units. Developed over the course of 5 months, this configurator integrates seamlessly with Begra's existing Magento e-commerce stack, providing an intuitive and immersive shopping experience for customers.

The Challenge Begra wanted to elevate its e-commerce platform by adding an interactive and intuitive configurator to drive customer engagement and automate the sales process. The challenge was to integrate this tool smoothly into their existing Magento e-commerce stack while maintaining a focus on user experience and real-time feedback. The Solution We built a 3D configurator from the ground up, seamlessly integrating it with Begra’s existing Magento store. This tool allows customers to configure and visualize their shelving units in 3D, while instantly seeing the pricing updates based on their choices. We focused on optimizing the shopping cart and checkout process to ensure that the configurator would work efficiently with Begra’s e-commerce setup.

Product & Cart API Integration: Automatically adds configured products to the cart. Custom UI/UX Design: Built with a mobile-first approach for accessibility and ease of use. We worked on a collaborative journey starting with three parallel tracks; centralising all product configuration data and dependencies, UI/UX design in Figma, and 3D preparation work in SolidWorks and Blender.

The journey was split into multiple phases to accommodate all the preparation work necessary for such an ambitious project. A team of product experts and integration specialists came together to provide the necessary information, allowing for continuous stakeholder feedback and revisions. Our approach began by creating UI wireframes, iterating over them into design mockups, and finally prototyping the final UX demo. Parallel to the UI/UX work, we took care of all Digital Twins (3D product models), which would drive the real-time 3D visualizations. I personally built the 3D configurator from the ground up, seamlessly integrating it with Begra’s existing Magento store. This allows the customers to configure and visualize their shelving units in 3D, while instantly seeing the pricing updates based on their choices. This project has been delivered by Darweb (I'm a one-stop-shop freelancer), in collaboration with Valantic NL, who assisted with the integration into Begra's existing e-commerce system and introducing a new dashboard section for the customer to open saved product configurations. The conceptual and design phase took 1.5 months, the development phase took 3.5 months. My part as one stop shop freelancer in the project: Project Manager, Owner and specialised guide regarding 3D Product Configurators and Configure, Price and Qoute systems in general. UI/UX Design in Figma to lock down the final design. 3D Modeling/Editing in Autodesk 3Ds Max/ Blender & SolidWorks for web optimized models.
