Designing an interactive digital travel journal ✈️

How often? — Maybe once a year or you get paid to travel.

Whatever the case, you’ll agree with me that travel is fun! Every travel experience must have unique memories, fun, adventure, and networking. With your camera in hand and a heart full of wanderlust, you embark on each trip seeking a way to capture and share your experiences.

The birth of this project is a result of my love and interest in travel, plus my keen love for design. I wanted to design a product in an industry I love and experience. After much thought and looking around (research as we call it), I found something interesting. Digital travel journal apps felt boring. How do you design a boring product for an industry built on exciting experiences?

After looking at a few of these travel journal products and how I felt about them, I asked myself: What if I made travel journaling more fun and interactive? What if? What if? … and … What if?

I drew inspiration from physical travel journals and scrapbooks filled with cut-out pictures, location tags, and notes, personally designed to the traveler's taste. Then I asked again, what if a digital journal of travel experiences could be made to look and feel like a real-world scrapbook?

GOAL: Provide travelers with an intuitive and fun platform to document, share, and cherish their travel experiences. I wanted to craft a travel journaling experience that wasn't as boring as the apps I experienced.
