Problem
Coatyarn, Santoni, and Macpi were looking to create a shoe upper that was highly technical and performing for outdoor, sports, free time, and workwear. They needed a yarn that would be resistant to abrasion, solvents, wear, hydrolisis, oils, grease, UV rays and ageing while also being permanently antibacterial and comfortable.
The companies wanted to use TPU Evolution® in the shoe upper as it was the most suitable coated yarn for their needs. However, they needed to find a way to knit the TPU Evolution® into the shoe upper with precision and quality.
Solution
The team decided to use the Mecmor CMP3 circular knitting machine with open variable panel (Variatex Technology) for the production of garments in weft knitting. This machine offered high productivity with 12 feeds and allowed them to produce all sizes without wastage due to its variable width fabric panel.
Using this machine, they were able to knit TPU Evolution® into the shoe upper with bright colors and details of amazing precision. They could use TPU Evolution® as a single yarn or in combination with other yarns by inserting it into the most stressed and wear-prone parts. A rapid pressing of the shoe upper activated TPU Evolution®, creating amazing color effects and contrasts of light from opaque to shiny while obtaining an incorporated skin effect thanks to TPU Evolution® yarn.
