Chrome Browser Extension Development (API + Supabase Backend)
Chrome Extension with OAuth2 + Supabase Integration
A full-stack Chrome Extension with secure OAuth2 sign-in and a Supabase backend, built to serve multiple organizations from one clean, fast codebase.
Overview
The client needed a Chrome Extension that could log users in securely, pull live data from their APIs and keep everything in sync between the browser and the backend. It also had to work for several organizations at once without separate builds for each. We designed and built the whole thing, from the popup UI to the serverless backend.
The Challenge
Browser extensions run in a tricky environment. They're exposed on the user's machine, so security has to be handled carefully. The client needed an extension that:
Handled full OAuth2 login, logout and token refresh without breaking the user flow
Never exposed API keys or credentials inside the extension itself
Served multiple organizations (tenants) securely from a single codebase
Felt fast and modern, with instant feedback on every action
Followed Chrome's Manifest V3 rules and was ready for production
Our Approach
Secure authentication flow
We built a complete OAuth2 flow inside the extension, covering sign-in, access tokens and automatic refresh. Users log in once and stay connected, while expired sessions are renewed quietly in the background.
Server-side security with Supabase
All sensitive work happens on the server. Supabase Edge Functions handle token exchanges and act as a secure proxy for API calls, so credentials stay server-side and never ship inside the extension.
Multi-tenant architecture
Each session is checked against tenant-based access rules, with dynamic environment switching. This lets one extension serve many organizations safely, without duplicating code or maintaining separate versions.
Modern popup UI
We designed a glassmorphic popup interface with responsive fields, smooth transitions and real-time status updates. Login, logout and refresh all update instantly, with no page reloads.
Testing and QA
We tested across multiple tenant deployments with real-time debugging and QA checks, making sure auth, data sync and edge cases all behaved reliably before launch.
Key Features
OAuth2 sign-in – secure login, logout and automatic token refresh
Server-side API proxy – credentials and keys never leave the backend
Multi-tenant support – one extension serving multiple organizations
Live data sync – fetches and syncs data through REST endpoints in real time
Instant UI updates – real-time status with no reloads
Manifest V3 ready – built to Chrome's latest extension standards
Tech Stack
Frontend: Manifest V3, React, Tailwind CSS and Chrome APIs
Backend: Supabase Auth, Database and Edge Functions
Security: OAuth2 flows, access tokens and refresh handling
Testing: Multi-tenant deployments, real-time debugging and QA validation
Results
Lightweight, enterprise-ready extension ready for production
Secure authentication with all credentials kept server-side
One codebase serving multiple organizations
Fast, smooth user experience with real-time updates
The Outcome
The client now has a Chrome Extension that's secure, fast and built to scale. It authenticates users, pulls live data and keeps the browser and backend in sync, all from a single codebase that's easy to grow with new organizations and features.
Chrome Extension with secure OAuth2 authentication and Supabase integration. With full auth flow, token handling, and API requests through serverless functions.
