This case study the transformation journey of App Yummy, an app that previously delivered adequate functionality and usability but had room for improvement to meet modern user expectations and industry standards. The aim of the revamp was to elevate the app from a functional, "good enough" solution to a truly engaging, user-centric experience, ensuring it stands out in a competitive market.
Background
Homepage is the initial page that users access when returning to the application. This page should be able to represent most of the features in the application. If the homepage is good then the application will feel good overall and vice versa, if the homepage is boring, then the application will feel boring too.
The current condition of Yummy App user retention can be said to be adequate with an average engagement time of 3 minutes/session and 7 minutes/user. However, there has been no development since last year and tends to decline. This indicates that the Yummy app is unable to maintain the interest of its users to stay and use the Yummy App for a long time. User engagement tends to decline sharply from day 3 based on analytics and there is no more interaction after 30 days. This is most likely caused by one of the Home screens when seen from the UEQ in the last UX Audit.
Objective
Increase the average engagement time of Yummy users by making it easier for users to explore the recipes on Yummy.
Increase user retention which will also increase loyal Yummy app users.
Process
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.
Research & Planning
Conducted market research to identify existing scheduling challenges and user preferences. Defined target audience segments and outlined key features based on user needs and market trends.
Ideation
Collaborated with designers to create intuitive user interfaces and interactive prototypes. Iteratively refined designs based on user feedback to enhance usability and visual appeal.
Testing & Optimization
Conducted testing across various devices and platforms to ensure compatibility and performance. Gathered user feedback through beta testing and iteratively optimized the app based on usability metrics and user satisfaction.
Development & Implementation
Leveraged agile development methodologies to build the scheduling app from the ground up. Prioritized feature development based on user feedback and technical feasibility.
Design
The design process flow was developed to help give a more streamlined approach to our design process. We cultivated five, much more focused, phases within our process. Though not much has changed throughout the process, we’ve streamlined it. We wanted to create an easy-to-follow chart that non-designers and designers alike could follow and work off of together. We like to follow these guidelines when creating our own products. Part of our refinement was also to have overlap with our product suite.
