About project

Copytrading is a popular tool among trading platforms and centralized cryptocurrency exchanges. Within a large platform, cryptocurrency trading itself does not generate direct income. Instead, it motivates users to carry out financial operations within the system. Users pay attention to the most profitable portfolios and aspire to earn as much as successful traders.

The company owners decided to develop a platform that allows aggregating traders from various exchanges and provides a convenient set of tools for analyzing their activity. The monetization model is based on receiving a percentage from each completed transaction.

Problem

The problem was that it was necessary to create a product MVP from scratch. The product owner did not have a single vision of how the final product should turn out. Therefore, I needed to analyze the market, collect insights to determine what the product will be in the first iteration and how it can develop.

What I did:

  • Interacted with stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Analyzed the functionality of direct and indirect competitors to determine the priority of features for the MVP.
  • Developed the user interface, refining it based on feedback received during usability testing.
  • Considered how the product could scale and what features could be added in the future. Established the correct layout of the page to avoid problems later.
  • Interacted with front-end and back-end developers.
  • Presented and defended my decisions in front of stakeholders, product managers, and developers.
  • Developed the product's design system.
  • I worked with the product owner, two developers and a QA engineer.

Competitor analysis

I analysed 11 competitors to figure out their best solutions to get as many product ideas as possible.

Also, I conducted six interviews with people who actively use cryptocurrency exchanges, including copy trading. I asked about the problems they encounter when analyzing information about a trader, what information is important to them, and how they decide whether to copy a trader or not.

The main product ideas I had were:

  1. Make the product interface intuitive so that beginners can easily navigate through charts and tables.
  2. The ability to connect to multiple exchanges will allow users to track the actions of top traders across different platforms.
  3. The trader filtering feature will simplify the search for the most suitable offers.
  4. Automating some settings for copying a trader will make the product more accessible to novice traders with limited experience.

User flow

I developed a user flow before starting the layout design to ensure an understanding of the user's sequence of actions. This facilitated communication between designers, developers, and other stakeholders, reducing the likelihood of misunderstandings and errors in the early stages of development.

Result

I assembled a clickable prototype and created responsive layouts for each page.
