SMO Live: Designing a Clearer System for a High-Energy Concert App
SMO Live needed a design system that could support livestreams, fan interaction, gifting, memberships, shop flows, and creator tools across mobile and tablet. Since the product was inspired by the Covid era of virtual concerts, the system had to capture the energy of live events while keeping the product clear and scalable.
We built the system to turn concert-like energy into a structured digital product.
The foundation included responsive grids, a dark visual language, bold accent colors, and a typography scale that could work across expressive fan-facing screens and more functional product flows. This helped the app feel immersive without losing clarity.
A big part of the system was creating reusable components—buttons, inputs, live cards, channel modules, shop tiles, feed blocks, and event cards—that could be used consistently across different features and screen sizes.
The goal was not only visual consistency, but faster scaling across a complex app.
The system also covered live-specific patterns such as chat, gifting, sticker packs, livestream overlays, and end-of-stream states. By treating these interactions as part of the system, the product could stay cohesive even in its most dynamic moments.
Overall, the SMO Live design system created a flexible foundation for a product built around digital concerts, fandom, and creator-led communities.
