Tanwa

Overview

Tanwa is a mobile barter and exchange app built around “swipe, match, swap.” It enables users to trade pre-loved items through a Tinder-style discovery system, promoting sustainable consumption and reducing waste. I led the full mobile UX design and shaped the brand direction, ensuring the experience felt social, trustworthy, and eco-friendly.

Goal

To design an intuitive mobile experience that makes listing, discovery, matching, and negotiation seamless while reinforcing Tanwa’s sustainability mission and increasing successful swaps through better onboarding, trust signals, and clear UI patterns.

Challenges

Designing a swipe-based marketplace where users must make decisions quickly but still feel safe.
Balancing wide catalog discovery with hyper-local matching and relevance.
Creating chat, negotiation, and profile trust indicators (reviews, trade history) that reduce friction in bartering.
Building flows for listing approval, media access, and content moderation (no generic images).

Solutions/Outcome

Designed the complete mobile UX across onboarding, listing, matching, chat, profile, and subscription flows.
Crafted a visual system emphasizing sustainability, trust, and social interaction.
Introduced friction-reducing UI patterns that improved swap likelihood (clear item info, trust badges, reviews, profile history).
Structured the swipe-match-chat flow to feel familiar, fast, and low-effort.
Delivered clear user education through FAQ/help overlays, listing rules, and camera/gallery permission prompts.
Created a scalable product foundation aligned with the business model — Free tier (limited chat window, swipe-based matching) and Premium tier (unlimited messaging, boosted visibility, unlimited swipes).
Resulted in a more intuitive barter flow that increased user confidence and strengthened Tanwa’s market position as a sustainability-driven trading platform.
