9 TV Shows & Anime Series for 2025

2025… New year, new thrills! And many horror franchises have confirmed new seasons, along with some promising new releases!

The Last of Us – Season 2

After a first season that respectfully paid homage to the games while taking the time to delve deeper into the stories of the characters encountered along the adventure, The Last of Us, with Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, is returning with a second season.
Of course, for those who have played the highly controversial second game, you likely know what this means. No spoilers, but we’re in for plenty of tears—and perhaps (surely) some anger. However, let’s hope fans stick with the series and allow themselves to be guided through a story of revenge that dives deep into the human psyche.
Season two takes place five years after the first season. Joel and Ellie, now living a relatively peaceful (at least stable) life, find their past catching up with them one day. And the consequences will be… catastrophic.
To watch in April 2025 on Max.

Alien: Earth

An Alien… on Earth? That’s the premise of this Disney+ series. One day, a spaceship crashes on Earth, and as the search for survivors begins, what emerges from the wreckage is, as you might guess, terrifying and deadly.
It’s a fairly straightforward concept, so we’ll see if the gamble of relocating the storyline to Earth pays off. (No, Alien VS Predator 2 doesn’t count as an Alien movie on Earth, let’s simply say that this movie was a fever dream).
You’ll be able to dive into this new story from Ridley Scott’s saga, which began in 1979, and will now star actress Sydney Chandler (Pistol, Don’t Worry Darling) during the summer of 2025. A noteworthy detail: the series was created by Noah Hawley, the mind behind Fargo, the series adaptation of the Coen brothers’ film of the same name.

Sandman – Season 2

The next installment of the highly anticipated supernatural horror series is coming to Netflix in 2025.
This season will mark the return of Dream (Tom Sturridge), a sandman capable of controlling dreams, who must now deal with all the problems caused by his absence as he travels through worlds and time.
Edit : The cancellation of Sandman after its second season was confirmed by Netflix in late January. The decision took place following serious allegations of sexual abuses on different women against the creator of the original comics, Neil Gaiman. A civil lawsuit was filled against him in February.

It : Welcome to Derry

The series It: Welcome to Derry will be a prequel, set before the events of the movies. We’ll be taken back to the 1960s, still in the small town of Derry, on the trail of the origins of the sinister Pennywise.
The good news? Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as the evil clown, and the director of the last two films and remakes, Andy Muschietti, is one of the show’s developers and also directed the first episodes.
The series is set to premiere on Max sometime in 2025.

Yellowjackets – Season 3

The grim adventures of the high school girls’ soccer team who survived a plane crash continue in Season 3.
Without giving away too much, certain deaths might bring buried truths to light during this new season, as like in the two previous ones, Yellowjacket focuses not only on the crash itself but also on the survivors’ lives after this harrowing ordeal, which drove them to confront one of humanity’s greatest taboos: cannibalism.
To watch on February 14, 2025 on Paramount+

Wednesday – Season 2

Not horrific, but deliciously macabre, Wednesday returns with a second season in 2025!
The plot? Not much is known yet, but we can expect a new antagonist, new friendships, and even more existential crises from a young girl who, despite her dark demeanor, remains a teenager searching for her identity. Between two monster hunting trips, of course.

Mayfair Witches Season 2

Horror and supernatural? That’s the promise of Mayfair Witches, which is returning this time with a second season.
To recap, the series follows a young neurosurgeon, Rowan Fielding, who one day discovers she is the heir to magical powers, being a descendant of a powerful lineage of witches. Of course, these new revelations come with new and..deadly dangers.
To watch now on AMC and AMC+.

Theatre Of Darkness – Season 14

Theatre Of Darkness is a horror series about Japanese myths and urban legends. Each episode focuses on a terrifying story. It’s the 14th season, so it’s doing pretty well!
To watch now on Crunchyroll, and Amazon Prime Video.
Magic, science fiction, urban legends, cannibalism, and a killer clown… there’s something for everyone. So surely, there is something for you too!
