WinterProof Webflow Development

WinterProof is a premium outdoor gear brand founded by Richard Riegel and Sophia Wubben. As avid skiers, they saw a gap in the market and designed their own custom ski bags from scratch, later expanding into merch like tees, beanies, and caps. They needed an e-commerce site that matched the premium feel of their product while running on Shopify's infrastructure behind the scenes.

The founders wanted a fully custom design that couldn't be achieved with a standard Shopify theme. At the same time, they needed Shopify's backend for inventory, orders, and fulfillment. The question was: how do you get a custom Webflow front end talking to a Shopify store seamlessly?

I handled all development, Shopify setup, and integration work. Quinn Bell (a regular design partner I've collaborated with across multiple projects) led the design in Figma. I was also involved during the design phase, suggesting layout changes and structural decisions that would translate cleanly into the development flow.

The front end was built entirely in Webflow from Quinn's custom Figma designs. For the e-commerce backend, we chose Smootify as the integration layer between Webflow and Shopify. Smootify fit the requirements best out of the options we evaluated, handling the communication between both platforms.

Most of the e-commerce functionality was handled directly by Shopify through Smootify's attribute system. For a few custom client requirements, I worked with the Shopify API directly to fill the gaps.

On the marketing side, Klaviyo handles all tracking, email forms, and any other form submissions across the site.

Design wrapped in 2-3 weeks, followed by another 2-3 weeks of development including the full Shopify setup and Smootify integration. The site is now live at unboundoutdoor.com.

The founders got exactly what they wanted: a premium, custom-designed storefront with Shopify running everything behind the scenes. Orders, inventory, and store management all flow through Shopify directly. No need to touch Webflow or any other tool for day-to-day operations.
