Palate — Reimagining Food Through Conversation

Palate is a concept food platform designed around a simple idea: people don't think about food in menus.
They think in cravings, moods, memories, and feelings.
Instead of asking users to scroll through endless options trying to find something close enough, Palate explores what a more personal food experience could look like—one where users simply describe what they're craving and the experience is built around them.

The Challenge

Food delivery platforms have made ordering more convenient, but not necessarily easier.
Users are often overwhelmed by endless choices, restaurant hopping, and decision fatigue. The deeper problem is that menus rarely reflect how people actually think about food.
Sometimes people know exactly what they want.
Other times they only know how they feel.
I wanted to explore what would happen if food ordering started with human intention rather than predefined options.

The Approach

Rather than designing another marketplace experience, I focused on creating a conversation-first journey.
The concept allows users to begin with a craving, mood, memory, or preference and gradually refine it through natural conversation.
A user might say:
"I'm feeling nostalgic today. I'm craving my grandma's pasta."
From there, the platform helps uncover the details behind the craving before translating it into a meal that chefs can prepare fresh.
The goal was to shift the experience from:
Searching for food → Creating food around the user.

Design Direction

One of the biggest challenges was finding the right visual language.
Early explorations leaned heavily into interfaces, AI messaging, and food delivery patterns. While functional, they lacked emotional connection.
The breakthrough came when I realized the product wasn't about ordering food.
It was about feeling understood.
This led to a more cinematic and human-centered direction built around:
emotional storytelling
chef craftsmanship
human interaction
warm visual atmospheres
editorial typography
Rather than showcasing technology, the website focuses on the relationship between craving and creation.

Using AI Throughout the Process

AI played an important role during exploration and strategy.
I used it to challenge assumptions, explore alternative product directions, generate conversational scenarios, and rapidly test different storytelling approaches.
This accelerated ideation while allowing me to spend more time evaluating opportunities, refining concepts, and strengthening the user experience.

Outcome

The final result is a premium marketing website and product concept that explores a different future for food experiences.
A future where people don't adapt to menus.
The experience adapts to them.
