Nestled across from Kongens Have in Copenhagen, David's Collection is a free-admission art museum renowned for its remarkable Islamic art collection, alongside impressive European and Danish works. This museum offers a serene, inspiring space in Copenhagen’s center, drawing art lovers and cultural heritage enthusiasts alike.
The collection began with attorney and art enthusiast Christian Ludvig David, who entrusted his art and estate to the C.L. David Foundation upon his passing. Today, the Foundation upholds his legacy by continuously expanding the collection and sharing art history with the public.
Project Overview
As with many cultural institutions, a visitor's journey often starts online. Recognizing this, the Foundation sought to redesign its digital platform to reflect the in-person experience of the museum. An additional goal was to offer a streamlined online store where visitors could buy museum publications, fostering an ongoing connection to the museum’s collection and stories.
Our Solution
In collaboration with Stupid Studio, who developed the digital branding and design, we implemented a headless CMS in Umbraco alongside a frontend in Vue.js, Nuxt.js, and Tailwind. This framework allows for seamless transitions, subtle animations, and calming colors that echo the peaceful ambiance of the museum, housed in C.L. David's former residence on Kronprinsessegade.
The website includes an integration with the Oncotype database, allowing visitors to explore high-resolution images of the museum's vast collections and artifacts, learn more about exhibitions, and book guided tours and educational experiences. The online store, equipped with Stripe Payment Links, offers museum publications for purchase, designed as an accessible and user-friendly shopping experience.
Outcome
Launched in late 2022, the website brings a new digital dimension to David's Collection, helping more locals and tourists discover this hidden gem and its peaceful setting.
Testimonial
"At The David Collection, our goal was for the new website to capture the museum's unique atmosphere and quality, making our digital catalog accessible for both new visitors and researchers. The results exceeded our expectations: the site is elegant, highly functional, and has significantly boosted our digital traffic—tripling monthly visits since launch. Our new booking system is also highly successful, with tours often filling up in advance. The collaboration with Stupid Studio and Dwarf was exceptional; they delivered a refined and comprehensive product."
