Dime – A Cross-Border Remittance App

Dime is a fintech app that simplifies cross-border remittance, allowing users to send money from major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP) directly to Ethiopia in Ethiopian Birr (ETB). With a focus on speed, security, and an intuitive experience, Dime aims to make international money transfers affordable and accessible for the Ethiopian diaspora and their families back home.

The goal of Dime’s design was to create a user-friendly, secure, and transparent experience that would build trust with users and streamline the money transfer process. As a cross-border remittance service, Dime needed to feel trustworthy and straightforward, helping users understand and control every step of their transaction.

Intuitive, Minimalist Layout: The app’s layout is intentionally clean and straightforward, with an emphasis on simplicity and ease of navigation. This reduces cognitive load, enabling users to complete transactions quickly and confidently without feeling overwhelmed.

Security Emphasis: We integrated visual cues, like secure payment badges and verification messages, at key touchpoints to reinforce Dime’s commitment to security. These elements reassure users that their funds and personal information are protected.

Transparent Transaction: We designed a multi-step transaction flow that visually represents each stage of the money transfer, from initiation to successful completion. This step-by-step approach reassures users by showing exactly where their money is in the process, a critical feature for building trust.

Research and Discovery: We began by understanding the needs and pain points of Dime’s target users—primarily Ethiopian diaspora members who are over 30. We analyzed competitor apps to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

Wireframing and Prototyping: Low-fidelity wireframes were created to map out user flows and identify key touchpoints. These evolved into interactive prototypes, allowing for early testing and feedback.

User Testing: We conducted usability tests with real users to validate the app’s navigation, transaction flow, and overall experience. Insights gathered informed adjustments to improve clarity and ease of use.

Final Design and Handoff: The final design incorporated Dime’s brand elements, warm colors, and clear CTAs, creating a visually appealing and functional experience. A comprehensive handoff ensured a smooth transition to development.
