Reviving wellness: from declining to thriving

Impact

Three months brought 100,000 new users.
Owner analytics showed what mattered most: over 90% of subscribers stayed active. User feedback improved dramatically, store ratings climbed, and referrals increased significantly. I could have rushed the team into development, but instead I added two months to talk with users first. Sometimes the best way forward is to pause and listen.

My role

Lead UX/UI designer working with two mobile developers and one product owner.

Challenge

Solid content, poor execution.
Subscriptions were dropping. New users were leaving. This wellness app needed more than a refresh. It needed a complete reimagining. The foundation was there, but the experience was failing users.

Process

I studied the existing app and analyzed the competition. Then I did something essential: I asked the users themselves.
22 in depth interviews and over 400 survey responses gave me clear direction. Users told me exactly what wasn't working and what they needed instead. I listened and let their insights guide every decision.

Solution

I recommended a hybrid framework for faster releases and added a web app to expand reach.
I designed the navigation from the ground up, solving the biggest pain point. I restructured nutrition and workout sections for clarity, simplified and automated analytics, improved health tracking integrations, and made the experience engaging and playful. Then I refined onboarding through group testing until it felt effortless.
