Challenge
Conceptualise an AI-powered brainstorming tool that helps users generate and structure ideas effectively, even without expertise in prompt engineering. Idea had no shape whatsoever and it was hard to find the appropriate product market fit so the client reached to me to take on the project and shape it into user scenarios using design thinking approach.
Process
1 Qualitative research
We decided to start off short interviews (up to 30 min) with potential customers to assess their needs and their familiarity with AI. The main challenge we aimed to solve is making AI prompting more accessible by helping users to curate their results therefore we need to gather some background information.
After analysing the data, we proceeded with the next algorithm for MVP:
User describes their prompt using 5Ws checklist
Systems generates taxonomy based of the inputs
System generates simple mindmap and displays it on the canvas for user to see
User interviews
2 Typeform prototype
The budget was limited so we decided to use Typeform as an initial interface to test out the feature without spending a penny on building any wireframes or mockups. I was directly responsible to design the structure of the survey achieving two goals:
Gathering the information about the target audience
Curating the test prompts to match our system
Typeform survey
3 User scenarios research
Client also asked to generate the some use cases scenarios to focus the team on the main functionality and outline full scope for the future MVP development in clear and concise manner. I have chosen to do that using the job stories. This instrument was specifically useful in our situation when we did not have any knowledge on who our target user may be.
Job stories
Result
Even though the prototype was fully functional and the client did present it to the investors, the idea was too broad. Due to this fact, the founder shifted focus to a narrower, more manageable project scope with NinjaMochi, which provided a more immediate, user-friendly application for snowboarding in Japan along with AI assistant.
Learnings
I have recognised the complexity of technical implementation in AI projects along with basics of prompt engineering.
Due tor rapid but impactful work, I gained insight into the importance of rapid prototyping and user feedback in refining and presenting innovative ideas to stakeholders and investors.
Client’s testimonial
We tested user concepts and ideated UX. Daryna brought a huge amount of experience in helping create user interview survey and concept UX flows that allowed us to rapid prototype concepts.
She was very focused and her value to the success of the project was amazing.
