Old Mutual Insure, a leader in the insurance sector, acknowledged shifts in user expectations and technology. Responding to feedback and market changes, the company initiated a major redesign of their insurance app to enhance intuitiveness, user-friendliness, and visual appeal. This move aligns with their commitment to innovation and customer focus.

The existing app was plagued by usability issues, frustrating users with its complex navigation, limited functionality, and outdated design, which widened the gap between user expectations and app performance. This not only decreased user satisfaction but also risked the company's competitive edge. A comprehensive app redesign was clearly necessary to maintain Old Mutual Insure's leadership in offering a modern and seamless app experience.

Moreover, Old Mutual Insure needed to develop its first design system/UI library. We tackled creating this system to provide a unified visual language and serve as the foundation for future designs. Our goal was to ensure consistency across all platforms and increase efficiency in design and development by implementing reusable components, guidelines, and principles.

We began by having a look at the existing app and sat with the relevant stakeholders to discuss and agree what the first MVP would look like for the project. We then started plotting out the flight plan and work activities for the project which would outline the phases of the design work to give us and the business a high level view of the journey. When we got into the work we started with user surveys and feedback before we got into the work to understand what the needs, wants and pain points are of our customers.
