Keza Africa: The future of smartphone financing in Africa

Keza Africa was a fintech/web app that reimagined smartphone financing for Africans — giving users the option to access devices through flexible payment plans instead of paying upfront. The platform allows customers to apply for devices, manage repayments, and track their payment status from any device. On the backend, admin and partner dashboards help the team handle growing demand, approvals, and vendor workflows.

My Approach

I approached Keza with a focus on clarity, scalability, and improving the end-to-end experience for both customers and the internal team. I started by reviewing the existing MVP and user testing insights to understand pain points and opportunities.
From there, I mapped out smoother user flows, redesigned key screens, and introduced a more consistent visual system to support future iterations. I also worked closely with the founders to refine features, simplify onboarding, and align the product’s direction with real operational needs. The result was a cleaner, more intuitive platform that could grow with the business and better support users at every step.

I led design from MVP to full product — responsible for web/app design, dashboard & admin interfaces, responsive layouts, user flows, and scalable UI systems.
Getting a device
To make the experience clear and reliable for every customer, I designed for multiple user states across the product. This included onboarding states for new users, application progress states for those submitting device requests, and repayment states that showed upcoming payments, overdue balances, or completed schedules. I also created states for declined applications, verification steps, and device eligibility checks to ensure users always knew what was happening and what to do next. Each state was carefully structured to reduce confusion, guide decisions, and improve transparency throughout the customer journey.

The Account module
In the end, the focus was on creating a smoother, more engaging experience that users could trust. By expanding the catalog, simplifying key flows, clarifying application statuses, and adding features that encouraged timely repayments and ongoing engagement, we transformed Keza into a more complete, user-friendly platform that felt both functional and genuinely enjoyable to use.
