Introduction to Buildly:

Buildly is an innovative AI-powered tool designed specifically for construction workers and contractors. It enables users to generate personalized outreach letters tailored to specific job opportunities, taking into account their expertise, location, and the job at hand. In addition, Buildly helps users create a portfolio showcasing their previous work and services, empowering them to network and connect with potential clients.

Target Audience:

The primary users of Buildly are construction workers, contractors, and small businesses within the construction industry who are looking to expand their client base and improve the efficiency of their outreach efforts. The tool is tailored to those who want to enhance their communication, network effectively, and build a professional portfolio that stands out to potential clients and employers.

Challenges:

Balancing AI Functionality with Industry Feel: One of the key challenges was ensuring that the AI-generated outreach letters and the overall platform experience felt natural and aligned with the construction industry, instead of being overly technical or generic. We needed the design and language to resonate with the target audience, creating a sense of trust and relatability.
Designing a Unique Landing Page: The landing page had to convey the essence of the construction industry while still showcasing the capabilities of an AI tool. The challenge was to avoid the typical techy or abstract design elements and instead infuse a sense of craftsmanship and industry expertise.
Ensuring Easy Navigation: Given the diverse skill sets of the target users, the tool needed to be intuitive and easy to navigate. Many construction workers might not be tech-savvy, so the UI/UX had to be simple yet effective.

My Role:

As the Lead UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for:
User Research and Personas: Understanding the needs, frustrations, and goals of construction workers and contractors to tailor the design. This included identifying pain points like time-consuming outreach efforts and the need for a professional portfolio.
UI/UX Design: I designed the interface to be intuitive and user-friendly, ensuring that construction workers could easily create their personalized outreach letters. I also created a platform that allowed them to build and showcase portfolios that aligned with their expertise.
Landing Page Design: I led the design of the landing page, focusing on making it feel grounded in the construction industry. We used imagery, fonts, and colors that reflected the industry’s aesthetic while maintaining a clean and functional layout. The goal was to build trust and engagement, avoiding the stereotypical tech-heavy feel of most AI tools.
Brand Alignment: I made sure the visual elements aligned with the Buildly brand identity. The brand’s language and tone were crafted to communicate directly with the construction industry, making sure users felt understood and not overwhelmed by overly technical language.
Prototyping and Testing: After the design phase, I worked on prototyping and user testing, ensuring the final product was seamless and intuitive for the target users.

Process:

Discovery & Research: We started with understanding the needs of construction workers through user interviews and market research. This helped us understand the tone, language, and approach that would resonate with our audience.
Wireframing & Prototyping: I created wireframes and prototypes to layout the basic structure of the dashboard, outreach tools, and portfolio management features. This step was critical to ensuring ease of use for non-tech-savvy users.
UI Design & Branding: I then focused on the visual design, selecting colors, fonts, and imagery that represented the construction industry but felt modern and approachable. The design was rooted in an understanding of the user's work culture and environment.
Feedback & Iteration: After user testing, we gathered feedback and iterated on the design, making sure it was user-friendly and that the AI tool’s benefits were clearly communicated.

Outcome:

The landing page successfully communicated Buildly’s value proposition: a tool that brings AI-driven efficiency and personalization to the construction industry.
The AI-generated outreach letters were designed to feel personal, keeping the construction worker’s expertise and location in mind while remaining straightforward and professional.
The platform's portfolio feature allowed users to showcase their past work and connect with potential clients, enhancing networking and business opportunities.
