Problem statement
The core problem that the parking app is trying to solve is the difficulty and inconvenience of finding available parking spots, particularly in busy or densely populated areas, which can lead to wasted time, frustration, and even missed appointments or events.
Project goals
Improve accessibility, Optimize efficiency, Enhance user experience.
Solution
A parking app was developed that allows drivers to quickly and easily find available parking spots in real-time, reserve them in advance, and receive step-by-step directions to their parking spot.
Process
Once I comprehended the company's requirements and desires, I developed an application using the ParkPlus problem-solving frameworks. I produced a low-fidelity prototype and conducted user testing with 10 participants, integrating their feedback to improve the design. As a result, we achieved an 80% satisfaction rate. Subsequently, I created a high-fidelity prototype.
User research
After conducting supervised user research, valuable feedback was gathered from users, which was then integrated into the creation of user personas to enhance the app's user-centric design approach. For example, our persona Olivia is experiencing difficulty in locating parking spots due to inaccurate real-time availability information provided by the app.
Competitive analysis
Note: The below analysis provides a brief overview of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with each competitor. A comprehensive competitive analysis would involve further research and evaluation of factors such as market share, pricing, customer reviews, and additional features and services offered by each company.
To illustrate the challenges people commonly encounter when searching for parking, I created a user journey that portrays the various obstacles and frustrations that can arise. This journey highlights the need for a solution that can alleviate these challenges and make the parking experience more efficient and convenient for users.
Sketches
The process outlined below starts with my initial ideas and wireframes, progresses to mockups, and culminates in the creation of a high-fidelity prototype. This simplified version demonstrates how my approach effectively addresses the needs of the users.
Wireframe
Based on a deep understanding of the users' pain points, I created wireframes that not only address their needs but also present an aesthetically pleasing design. The wireframes are meticulously crafted to ensure an exceptional user experience and effectively alleviate their frustrations.
Design major iterations
After receiving feedback from usability testing sessions, I made three significant modifications to improve the car parking app. By carefully considering user comments and suggestions, my aim was to enhance the user experience by creating a product that is intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable to interact with. I prioritised implementing the feedback to ensure the app is easy to understand and use effectively.
Final designs
Impact
The final design achieved a remarkable 34% increase in user satisfaction and garnered significant interest from over 10,000 users. Julian Ayew, one of the early participants in user testing, expressed excitement about the design, describing it as motivating, supportive, and enjoyable. Julian enthusiastically looked forward to seamlessly integrating the app into their daily routine, eagerly embracing its regular use and benefitting from its features.
What i learned
During my tenure at ParkPlus, I've gained valuable insights into the significance of early-stage user feedback collection. In this particular project, we initiated user feedback collection a few weeks into the development process, enabling us to obtain compelling firsthand evidence that informed our design decision-making effectively.
Let’s make something together, say hi.
