Objective:
Create meaningful hand-drawn illustrations symbolizing hope and unity among refugees from different countries.
Context:
With eight years of formal art education and experience as a children’s art teacher, I use my skills to craft illustrations that convey powerful messages. This project was inspired by World Refugee Day and aimed to raise awareness through visual storytelling.
Challenges:
Combining symbolic elements from multiple cultures while maintaining visual harmony.
Ensuring the message of resilience and hope was universally understandable.
Approach:
Concept Development: I conceptualized a bird perched on a branch adorned with flowers representing the flags of Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. The bird symbolizes freedom, while the blossoming flowers represent growth and hope amidst adversity.
Art Creation: Using Procreate on iPad, I hand-drew the illustration, focusing on intricate details, vibrant colors, and symbolic elements that convey a positive message.
Learnings:
The project reinforced the importance of visual metaphors and cultural sensitivity when creating art with a social message.
Future Improvements:
For future works, I would explore integrating additional cultural symbols to create even more inclusive compositions.
