About Dermi
Dermi AI is an application built to minimize your product waste. People don't understand what they put on their skin. The average person will spend $15,000 on skincare products in their lifetime. How much of that actually had a positive impact?
In a world full of harsh ingredients, parabens, sulfates, and pore-clogging ingredients, the average consumer doesn't have the knowledge or time to analyze a product's ingredient list and then factor in their own skin conditions on top of that to make sure its a "good fit." Can I use this with oily skin? Will this product make my eczema flare? What about my acne?
Dermi AI scans your face and analyzes any existing skin traits, such as skin problems, skin type, and more. It then allows you to scan your products to cross-reference them to its product database. With all this knowledge, the AI-powered chatbot, dermi, will empower you to make better decisions for your skin.

Understanding the skincare industry.
Idea: Can AI perform skin consultations and identify skin problems?
The engineering team created processing techniques for the AI to be able to recognize skin conditions. With one picture, the AI can scan for numerous skin conditions, being able to recognize any part of the body.
Problem: How do we retain users?
The application currently allowed users to identify skin problems. What happens next? We needed a create a reason for users to keep returning to the app.
Idea: Ingredient Analysis
The average consumer spends $15,000 on skincare products a year. How much of that has actually been beneficial in tackling their root problems?
Problem: Consumers don't have the time to analyze the ingredients on the back of the bottle, and they have no knowledge of what their skin actually needs. This leads to overconsumption and aggravated customers.
Feature Ideation
Can we use AI to scan product ingredients?
Consulted Chat GPT3. The AI educated the consumer on why the product is safe for acne-prone skin.
The response was elementary, but still worthwhile knowing that it could provide this experience for many different products under the sun. If a user can ask questions like these, they may decrease overconsumption and increase product education.
Additional research
Studying the application 'Acne-Safe,' an app that cross-references product ingredients to a preprogrammed list of harmful ingredients.
The app requires users to copy and paste ingredients themselves. This is time-consuming and inefficient for consumers, especially as they are shopping. Can we improve on this?
There's no save feature. Users should be able to save their products on the app so they can reference them at later points.
