Josef Pankiewicz is an electroacoustic composer, producer, and instrumentalist based in Katowice, Poland. His work spans minimalist piano, ambient synthesis, and immersive audiovisual performances. He needed a portfolio site that could communicate the depth and atmosphere of his music, not just list tracks and tour dates.
The Build
I designed and developed a scrollytelling portfolio that treats the site itself as a sensory experience. The page unfolds like a narrative: from Josef's artistic philosophy, through his major projects (Ritual of Colors, KTW Soundscape), to his creative process and contact.
Key technical decisions:
Next.js for performance and SSR
PostgreSQL backend for dynamic content management
Custom loading sequence with percentage counter to set the mood before the page reveals
Scroll-driven storytelling sections that guide the visitor through Josef's world
Sound integration prompt on entry, reinforcing that this is an audio-first artist
Interactive map for the KTW Soundscape project, linking city locations to compositions
Bilingual support (Polish/English) for international reach
The Result
A portfolio that feels like stepping into Josef's music. The site serves as his primary digital presence, housing his projects, bio, concert film, workshop process, and newsletter. It positions him as a serious artist with a cohesive visual and sonic identity.
Scrollytelling portfolio for an electroacoustic composer. Next.js with PostgreSQL, scroll-driven narrative, sound integration, and an interactive city soundscape map.
