Visual identity and collateral bridging frontstage and backstage for a surreal performance.
A Super Date with Mr Broom was the final performance assignment for the Performance Practices course at Macquarie University, where I created the full visual system for the production.
It was recognised as 1 of only 17 finalists in the Student Brand Identity category at the AGDA Design Awards 2025, a benchmark for Australian design excellence.
Design approach
When the performance becomes an immersive film studio visit.
‘A Super Date with Mr Broom’ is a play-within-a-play as a stage performance. Mr Broom is the protagonist of our staged film, whose abstract graphic defines the project’s key visual. This motif brings the surreal, playful tone of the film into the performance’s studio tour setting.
Props, projections, environment, audience keepsakes, all worked together. The design made the audience feel inside a working film studio, rather than watching a film acted out on stage.
