André Azevedo’s Design Case Exercise

In this exercise, my main goal was to help users effortlessly find restaurant availability while accessing information about the restaurant's quality and dietary preferences, followed by a quick and efficient booking process. To achieve that I redesign a restaurant booking app in a holistic and user-centered approach.

Business Objective

Revamp the shopping experience

The goal is to revamp the shopping experience to increase the utilization of the app among its existing users.

Discovery

I initiated a Discovery process by organizing a Research Wall with all available information from data usage, customer feedback, and the current FindFood app to gain a deeper understanding of the reservation scenario. The research wall provided valuable insights into user pain points, moments of frustration, and needs.
Two key insights emerged:
the difficulty for users to see the available reservation times and
the tendency of customers to book the same restaurants instead of trying new ones due to the lack of information about dietary restrictions and quality.

Problem statement

Upon analyzing the data, it was found that many users are reluctant to make reservations because when their preferred restaurant is fully booked, they face difficulty in finding alternative dining options that match their criteria in terms of quality, dietary choices, and location. Consequently, they may decide not to book or delay their plans until a suitable alternative becomes available.
To guide the solution, it was generated a measurable hypothesis that having better social proof mechanisms in the platform would improve users' reliability in restaurants, making them more confident to book and increasing the number of reservations.

Journey mapping

Competitors analysis

In order to gain insights into the current market offerings, a basic analysis of competitors was conducted. The analysis included an evaluation of how the OpenTable app handles restaurant information and reservation details, as well as the App Store, Openfoodfacts, and Airbnb.

Wireframes

To start to make the solution tangible, a low-fidelity wireframe was drafted, focusing on these screens:

Design proposal: High fidelity mockups

The design proposal centers around a "Job to be done" that aims to help users effortlessly find restaurant availability while accessing information about the restaurant's quality and dietary preferences, followed by a quick and efficient booking process.

Possible Next steps

it is essential to conduct a Concept Testing session involving a group of users. Their feedback on the proposal can highlight aspects that require improvement, as well as those that are relevant and should be retained.
