Overview Gandalf AI, an AI-driven sales assistant for Shopify stores, struggled with a clunky, inconsistent design and poor onboarding flow, frustrating store owners.
My Role As the product designer, I revamped the UI to streamline Shopify integration, AI training, and chatbot customization.
Customer Problem Store owners faced high costs and limited scalability due to time-consuming customer support. With Gandalf AI's complicated interface, they struggled to quickly adopt automation tools that could boost conversions and improve customer engagement.
Challenges The biggest challenge was untangling the boilerplate-heavy template while addressing inconsistent UI elements that made navigation difficult. Balancing the need for a flexible AI training setup with a user-friendly onboarding experience was tough. Another hurdle was creating a cohesive flow that guided users through connecting their Shopify store, training the model, and customizing the chatbot—all without overwhelming them.

Design Solution

To address the challenges faced by store owners, I redesigned the Gandalf AI app with a focus on usability:
Streamlined Interface: I simplified the layout for easier navigation and revamped the onboarding process, making it intuitive for users to connect their Shopify store and set up the AI assistant.
UI Component Library: I created a consistent UI component library with reusable design elements to ensure a professional and cohesive look throughout the app.
Handoff Ready: Detailed design specs and interactive prototypes were prepared for the development team, ensuring a smooth transition from design to implementation.
Collaborative Approach: Close collaboration with product and engineering teams allowed us to align goals and quickly address technical challenges.
User Feedback: Incorporating user testing helped refine the design based on real interactions, ensuring it met user needs.
Improved Analytics: Enhanced reporting features were added so store owners could easily track the performance of their AI assistant.
