Challenge by Word Tonic

Come up with a headline for an ad about Bumble to celebrate its re-brand and new "opening moves" feature on the app.

Insight

In May 2024, bumble launched a controversial ad campaign where they mentioned celibacy, targeting women who choose to quit the app due to dating app burnout. Critics claimed it was shaming people for choosing not to have sex, and the company withdrew their campaign.

Strategy

My strategy was to tone it the F*** down and write some headlines that were a little goofy so that they could garner some positive attention.
I came up with the Hamlet-inspired wordplay after playing around with a few drafts on Canva - the classic 'to be or not to be?' but contextualized for the brand; this also highlights that the app has been updated to enhance the user experience.
The second headline carries the artsy tone of this campaign and is a simple couplet that also highlights the enhanced user experience; once people update their apps.
