Situation: I was working as a product manager and full stack developer at Banco Santander, one of the largest banks in the world. Banco Santander had a complex and diverse portfolio of financial products and services, such as derivatives, securities, loans, and deposits. Banco Santander needed a new enterprise application for markets risk, to prevent operations failure for brokers and have more control over the bank turnover and risk exposure.
Task: My task was to develop and manage the whole lifecycle of the new enterprise application for markets risk, ensuring a robust, reliable, and secure solution that met the business and regulatory requirements. The new enterprise application would enable Banco Santander to monitor, measure, and manage the market risk of its financial products and services, using advanced analytics, models, and simulations.
Action: To accomplish this task, I did the following:
I defined the scope of the new enterprise application, including the objectives, benefits, and specifications. I conducted a thorough analysis of Banco Santander’s current situation, identifying the gaps, challenges, and opportunities. I also researched the best practices and standards in the industry, and benchmarked the competitors.
I aligned the new enterprise application with the relevant stakeholders, such as the leadership team, the business units, the IT department, the brokers, and the regulators. I communicated the vision, value, and timeline of the new enterprise application clearly and frequently. I also involved the key stakeholders in the planning and execution of the new enterprise application, soliciting their feedback and input along the way.
I managed the stakeholder and vendor relationships, ensuring clear and frequent communication, collaboration, and coordination. I used tools such as Microsoft Office and Jira to manage the projects, tasks, and workflows. I also used tools such as zoom and slack to communicate and share information with the stakeholders and vendors. I also created and maintained contracts, agreements, and invoices with the stakeholders and vendors, ensuring transparency and accountability.
I addressed the technical and data nuances of the new enterprise application, such as compatibility, security, scalability, and accuracy. I ensured that the tools and platforms used by the new enterprise application were compatible with each other, and with the bank’s systems and infrastructure. I also ensured that the data collected and processed by the new enterprise application was secure, compliant, and ethical. I also ensured that the new enterprise application could scale up or down according to the demand and capacity. I also used tools such as google analytics and Jira to measure and optimize the performance and impact of the new enterprise application.
I developed the new enterprise application using various tools and platforms, such as java, angular, redshift, and power bi. I used java to develop the core functionality and logic of the new enterprise application, using object-oriented programming and design patterns. I used oracle to store and manage the data of the new enterprise application, using relational database and SQL. I used microsoft power BI to perform the analytics, models, and simulations of the market risk, using mathematical and statistical functions and libraries, then to visualize and present the results and insights of the market risk, using charts, dashboards, and reports.
Result: The new enterprise application for markets risk was a successful and efficient solution, thanks to the careful planning and execution, and the collaboration and cooperation of all the stakeholders and vendors. The new enterprise application enabled Banco Santander to prevent operations failure for brokers and have more control over the bank turnover and risk exposure. The new enterprise application resulted in improved risk management, compliance, and profitability, as well as enhanced customer satisfaction and trust.
