AdaptHome: VA adaptive housing grants for veterans

What it is

The VA pays for home modifications for disabled veterans through three grants, SAH, SHA and HISA, but working out which one applies means reading federal statute. AdaptHome asks a few plain questions, tells the veteran which grant fits, estimates the cost of the work, and connects them with contractors who do it.

What I built

A grant and cost calculator. The eligibility questions follow the wording of the statute (38 U.S.C. 2101), which is mostly about the loss, or loss of use, of particular limbs. The calculator routes each answer to the program the law actually supports. When an answer only conditionally qualifies, the results screen shows the conditions instead of overstating it. "Not sure" gets its own answer rather than a guess.
Contractor matching. A contractor directory and portal, lead routing, and a two-stage matching flow between veterans and contractors.
Veteran accounts and an admin panel for managing contractors, leads and content.

How I check it

Grant amounts and eligibility rules are traced to the source that sets them before they go on the site. When I changed the eligibility question, I re-ran every saved calculator session against the new logic to confirm the results changed the way they should.

Stack

Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind, with Supabase for the database, auth and Row Level Security.

A platform I built that helps disabled veterans find out which VA adaptive housing grant fits them and connects them with contractors for home modifications. Live at adapthome.vet.
