OpenEcoLabs wanted to improve their open ecology labs website by fixing several bugs and adding a new page to showcase the labs in card form.

Who is OpenEcoLabs?

OpenEcoLabs are places for practical action. With our actions, we pursue a holistic approach to a knowledge-based, sustainable society with open technologies and methods that are accessible to everyone. Making technical construction plans publicly available alone is not enough. It is important to set up locations and projects for practical action, the OpenEcoLabs. We see cycles and open development as the key to a sustainable and responsible future. OpenEcoLabs thus form model places whose forward-looking understanding of action always considers planetary boundaries and social prosperity as a basic requirement for our way of life and economy.

Process

The OpenEcoLabs website was up and running when I was brought in to assist with fixing some issues and adding a couple of features to make the site user-friendly. The FAQ section was too long and an eyesore while there were some buttons that didn't work. I also had to create a new locations page where I could provide summary information for the labs and users could interact by searching, filtering, and selecting.
I spent the first few days fixing the bugs since they were straightforward. Afterward, I had to create a new FAQ section which had collapsible headings and was, therefore, easy to use. You can view the results below:

Next up was to create a locations page. I had to make a page where users could search and filter for labs without reloading. In addition, they could also click on a location to get more information. Here is the result:
