Project overview

Undertook a project to assist a fashion brand in identifying strategic opportunities for retail expansion. The goal was to analyze competitor presence and recommend potential retailers and cities for the client's portfolio expansion.

Challenges and Solutions

Client Collaboration: the client provided a list of competitors to analyze and the stores where they were currently operating. This collaboration ensured alignment with the client's objectives and market understanding
Data Scraping Complexity: I scraped data from the 18 competitors' websites using custom Python scripts, each tailored to overcome challenges such as navigating different layouts, avoiding captchas and accessing Store locators' iframes. Additionally, I conducted thorough data cleaning and standardization to prepare for subsequent analysis.
Data Analysis Method: after cleaning the data, I identified duplicates and created a dummy column for each competitor and the client. This facilitated the creation of a "competitor count" column, indicating the number of competitors selling through each store.
Criteria for Ranking: due to limited data, I ranked retailers based on competitor presence. The rationale was straightforward: if competitors were successfully operating through certain channels, those retailers were potential targets for the client.

Deliverables

I provided the client with:
A "Low Hanging Fruits" table, listing the top 10 retailers already partnered with, ripe for expansion based on competitor presence and US store count.
A "Potential Growth Retailers" table, highlighting the top 10 retailers not yet partnered with, primed for expansion based on competitor presence and US store count.
Two tables showing the top 5 cities each for men's and women's brand expansion, where the client currently had no presence.
An additional table displaying the number of stores found on each competitor's website and the overlap percentage with the client's store portfolio.
