Project Overview

Product:

Beautemps Pâtisserie is a Moroccan-French pastry shop located in the heart of the economic city of Casablanca that presents its customers with homemade cakes and pastries, on-site, based on selected quality products. Beautemps Pâtisserie offers Moroccan and European pastries, as well as gluten-free desserts without refined sugar. Our customers can taste it at any time of the day, have it delivered to their homes, and choose the desired product without having to make a phone call to place an order.

Project duration:

September 2022 to March 2023.

My role:

UX designer designing an app for Beautemps Pâtisserie from conception to delivery.

Responsibilities:

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

The problem:

People who don’t have time and want to be delivered without going to the bakery and have a wide choice of products.

The goal:

Design a Beautemps Pâtisserie a fancy bakery app that allows the customer to order and be delivered home and select the desired product based on their needs.

Understanding the user

User research

Summary:
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs.
A primary user group identified through research was people who want to want to be delivered without going to the bakery and also those who want gluten-free desserts without refined sugar.
and enjoy pastries at home.
This user group confirmed initial assumptions about The fancy bakery “le Beautemps pâtisserie” customers, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from making cakes that suits their taste at home.
Other user problems included difficulties like :
To be delivered at home.
To find pastries with sugar-free or vegan cakes and have more choices.
To protect their bodies and maintain an ideal weight.
The quality of the products.

Problem statements

Emily’s user journey mapping revealed how useful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated Beautemps Pâtisserie app.

Starting the design

Paper wireframes

I tried to facilitate the process for the user by switching from one screen to another.
I also adjust the home page so that it is not cluttered and too visually loaded for the user.

Digital wireframes

Based on feedback from the user's research, I designed the different screens of the app.

Low-fidelity prototype

Easy navigation was a key user need to address in designs in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies.

Usability studies

The main user flow I chose in the low-fidelity prototype created was to order a pastry so that the prototype could be used in a usability study.

Usability study: findings

I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.

Refining the design

Mockups:

For the early designs, we can see that there are fewer details on the product so I redefined from the home page by adding photos to know which product it is and I removed some elements so that the page is not cluttered with details.
After the second usability study, it was essential to add two important processes after the order button whose delivery time is according to their availability to be delivered on time, and a confirmation message after the payment to ensure that the order is confirmed, and the user will receive a confirmation email.

High-fidelity prototype:

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for choosing a pastry and checkout. It also met user needs for a delivery option and a confirmation message after the payment.
