The Last Unicorn Book Cover

The scene I chose to depict for my cover of The Last Unicorn has stuck with me since childhood. The Unicorn is about to begin her journey in search of others like her, filled with a sense of warring hope and regret at knowing her forest and woodland friends will be left in a vulnerable position without her protective magic. As she departs, she looks back, promising a speedy return as the animals gather to say goodbye.

This richly layered illustration was drawn in Adobe Fresco using cool soothing forest hues, earthy lines and bold organic shapes.
