Most people have their lives scattered across "digital junk drawers"; old emails, random cloud drives, and physical folders. When something urgent happens, the scramble to find a birth certificate or a will is stressful.
The real challenge wasn't just building storage; it was designing trust. People don’t hand over their most sensitive documents to an app that feels cold or "salesy." I needed to build a platform that felt secure enough to hold a will, but simple enough for anyone to use.
The Approach: Trust First, Sell Later
I realized early on that this product would fail if the user felt "sold to" before they felt safe. I structured the journey to be a conversation, not a checklist.
The "Handshake" Onboarding: Instead of a generic dashboard, I designed a focused sign-in flow. Once a user logs in, they’re guided to complete their profile (name, DOB, phone). This isn't just data collection; it’s about establishing a professional, secure environment from the first thirty seconds.
Frictionless Exploration: I let users set up their vault, enable biometrics, and get organized for free. I wanted them to see the value before I asked for a credit card.
Strategic Paywalls: We only introduce subscriptions when the user hits a high-value action, like a legal notarization. At that point, the "ask" feels like a fair exchange for a premium service, not a barrier to entry.
