Overview

The Skull Crusher website is an experimental extended reality (XR) project developed by us. This project leverages advanced hand-tracking technology to create an immersive gaming experience and is built using Three.js. The goal was to push the boundaries of web-based interactivity, providing users with an innovative way to engage with XR content directly from their browser.

Challenges

Innovative Technology: Implementing seamless hand-tracking in a web-based environment was a technical challenge, requiring precision and compatibility across multiple devices.
Performance Optimization: Ensuring smooth rendering and responsive interaction while maintaining high visual fidelity.

Approach

Discovery and Research
Conducted a comprehensive analysis of existing XR technologies and explored the capabilities of Three.js for real-time 3D rendering.
Defined project requirements and potential technical hurdles.
Strategy Development
Focused on creating a narrative-driven experience where users battle by destroying skulls in an interactive environment.
Designed a unique control mechanism using hand gestures for shooting lasers and aiming.
Design and Development
Utilized Three.js to build the 3D environment and implement the hand-tracking mechanics.
Created realistic visual effects, including laser shooting and skull destruction, to enhance engagement.
Integrated audio design with a deep narration voice to add an atmospheric layer to the experience.
Testing and Refinement
Conducted iterative testing across various devices to ensure compatibility and responsiveness.
Gathered user feedback to refine hand-tracking accuracy and interface usability.
The final product was a fully functional XR website featuring:
A hand-tracking interface allowing users to aim with their hands, close their fists to shoot lasers, and open their fists to stop shooting.
A visually striking 3D environment with up to 100 interactive skulls to destroy.
Atmospheric sound design, including the voice of a dark magician, which narrates the experience and provides a dramatic ending.
