I spent 1 week working with a band to mix and master their punk-rock track to be Spotify ready. This included client calls, guiding them through writing a good project brief, as well as communicating throughout the project to ensure we stayed on the right path for the project. For this project I also crafted a new drum sound using samples, and got the track sounding according to their brief!

Due to the project not being launched yet, I can not disclose the name of the artist, or the name of the song. Sometimes this is the case when clients want me to sign NDAs when working outside of their current labels. But - if this artist decides to go public and release the song, I may update this project with full links and information about the artist, so you can go support them as well!

Working with artists and bands can be challenging, especially if it is the first time the band/artist is working on a release project. It is important to go into a project like this with a clear strategy, and being able to communicate clearly to ensure everyone involved knows what to expect from the project.

The project started with a meeting discussing their needs (which you of course by now know would be mixing and mastering). This session is always most heavily focused on what the client needs and wants out of the project, their vision and goal. Since they did not have any previous experience with release projects there were a lot of questions regarding my process, and what they needed to do to get their project released. As they did not have a clear timeline for their project release, we ended up deciding that I would take on the task of mixing, mastering and consulting them on any production tweaks that I felt would be beneficial to the project.

Once the scope was decided, the clients were informed of my needs from them - including formatting of the multitracks, and how to send them to me.

In less than 1 week, I was able to mix, tweak and master the track according to the band's satisfaction, and have their project Spotify Ready🎸🎧

The first step was to listen through all tracks, balance and place their recordings to fit the production, and making sure there were no obvious mistakes that needed to be resolved in the recording or "Pre-Production" phase. Once a few small edits were made, the tracks were ready to mix - and I started doing my magic.

One of the first things I did was to re-amp the guitars, as I had access to a DI signal, and I felt the guitar amplifier that was used in the recording was slightly lacking in "punch" and tone. You can hear the result of the DI and Re-Amping process below.

I also ended up adding triggers from the drums, to a virtual instrument adding more depth and body to the drum track - which can be listened to in the preview at the top of the page.
