Sometimes the best part of the day is when I get to sit down and mix or master other people's projects, making them ready for distribution. Be it a new band that wants Spotify ready tracks, or an orchestral composition needing cleaning up before being used for film or games!

I spent 1 week working with a band to produce, mix and master their punk-rock track to be Spotify ready. This included client calls, guiding them through writing a good project brief, as well as communicating throughout the project to ensure we stayed on the right path for the project. For this project I also crafted a new drum sound using samples, and got the track sounding according to their brief!

Even though this is a Punk/Rock track, I take on projects in many different forms - ranging from singer songwriter acoustic projects, to heavier metal and orchestral stuff! Working with clients can be challenging if it is the first time they are working on releasing a project. It is important to go into a project with a clear strategy, and being able to communicate clearly to ensure everyone involved knows what to expect from the project.

Most projects start with me asking about their needs and trying to fish out information about feeling, vibe, vision and such. This sometimes is a video session where we go through any existing briefs the client may have, as well as reference material. If the client does not have any experience with this, I bring my experience from many previously successful projects to guide them through the process, and make sure that I do my best to serve the project - whatever that means in the specific case. When working on projects, one of the most important things is time! Nobody likes to wait, and everyone wants their projects done and delivered yesterday. With that in mind, I always stay on top of committed projects, and deliver on target and on time, according to brief. Having background in production as well, I often have the option to record or re-amp guitars, other instruments, or add to the existing tracks - if the customer wants to! An example of this is the track below, where the guitars needed a better sound - so I got sent the DI track in the middle of working on the project.

I also ended up adding triggers from the drums, to a virtual instrument adding more depth and body to the drum track - which can be listened to in the preview at the top of the page.

Being in the film and games industry as well, it's important to be able to deliver on the orchestral side as well. Sometimes you end up with hybrid solutions creating an interesting mix between synths and traditional orchestra, and while sometimes it's all strings, and perhaps a piano!

Mixing and mastering orchestral music is a completely different beast than regular indie, rock, singer/songwriter productions! There is a lot more to it, but being lucky enough to work with composing for orchestra - I also get to mix and master for orchestra! This puts me in a fantastic position to be able to cover a wide range of genres, to fit almost any customer need when it comes to mixing and mastering.
