A horror aficionado partnered with me to turn an extensive collection of references into an interactive database.
Carrie Syme spent years building a complex academic spreadsheet with more than 10,000 records and citations from horror literature and cinema. Her dream? To turn that spreadsheet into a public-facing library that any horror-lover or academic could use.
Carrie commissioned illustrations from David Proctor that helped define the look and feel of the website. I designed the user interface and developed the complex database.
I created the database using MongoDB, and built a NodeJS / Express application using handlebars on the front-end to populate the data. It has the speed, security, and resilience of the modern, flexible stack with a fast-querying database to retrieve collections.
