Introduction

At FLYR Hospitality, the focus is on empowering hotels with tools that enhance revenue management and streamline group bookings. As a Product Designer, I worked on refining the Group Quotation tool, introducing profitability metrics and implementing collaboration to help hotels make data-driven decisions and communicate.

Role

As the Product Designer, I was responsible for designing and implementing user-centered solutions. My work spanned from research and wireframing to prototyping, usability testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Challenges

Profitability Metrics: Hotels struggled to evaluate group profitability accurately, lacking detailed insights into incremental profit, revenue, and VAT inclusivity.
Collaboration: Revenue management teams needed better tools for task communication and collaboration within the platform, especially for managing group quotations and planning.
User Engagement: Group quotation processes were lengthy, leading to potential drop-offs.
Scalability: Solutions had to accommodate diverse hotel properties with varying tax and revenue configurations.

Approach

Conducted user research and interviews with hotel partners and advisory board members to understand workflows and pain points.
Designed and tested interactive prototypes for both group profitability metrics and in-app collaboration features.
Partnered with cross-functional teams to align design decisions with business goals and technical feasibility.

Problem

Hotels lacked actionable financial insights for group bookings and faced inefficiencies due to poor collaboration tools.

Key financial data points (e.g., net profitability) and collaboration features (e.g., commenting and tagging) were either missing or scattered.

Solution

Group Quotation MVP:
Delivered the Group Quotation MVP, a comprehensive tool for hotels to evaluate and manage group bookings more effectively.
Designed key features, including profitability metrics (Group Revenue, Incremental Profit) and VAT handling, ensuring actionable insights and user-friendly workflows.
Simplified the group quotation process with clear, interactive elements to support informed decision-making.
Group Profitability Metrics:
Designed expandable KPI metrics for Group Revenue, Group Profit, Incremental Profit, and Incremental Revenue.
Introduced VAT configuration to support exclusive and inclusive tax handling, improving transparency.
Enabled decision-making with detailed insights into financial performance.
In-App Collaboration:
Implemented a commenting system for group and planning modules, allowing users to tag colleagues, resolve threads, and consolidate notifications.
Designed live user indicators to show which team members were active in specific modules, fostering better coordination.
Created a phased rollout plan to gradually expand collaboration tools across modules.

Results

Improved Decision-Making: Hotels gained actionable insights into group profitability, leading to better booking evaluations and increased trust in the platform.
Enhanced Collaboration: The commenting system streamlined communication, reducing email dependency and increasing task resolution efficiency.
User Engagement: The collaboration features encouraged more frequent logins and longer time-on-page, driving overall platform adoption.
Scalable Design: The phased rollout of collaboration tools allowed for iterative improvement and seamless integration into additional modules.
