Jennifer Dunbar, LICSW is a licensed clinical social worker and founder of Lifespan Parenting — an education and coaching brand helping parents navigate the evolving relationship with their young adult children. The business was pre-launch, with a fully built Showit website, written email copy, and a detailed automation strategy already in hand.
Jennifer needed a technical implementation partner to bring the entire system to life — from Kit account architecture through to ManyChat Instagram automation and website launch.
The Challenge
The scope was substantial and interconnected across three platforms. The core challenges were:
Building a scalable Kit tag architecture that could handle 6 simultaneous subscriber pathways without duplicate emails or automation conflicts
Implementing 8 email sequences across multiple lead magnets, a webinar, a workshop, and a premium intensive program — all from pre-written copy
Connecting ManyChat to Instagram so that keyword-triggered DMs passed subscribers cleanly into the right Kit automations
Launching the Showit website including domain connection, form embeds, and social media integration
Delivering everything on a tight timeline ahead of a July 1 social media launch — while managing a health setback mid-project
THE SOLUTION
Platform Architecture
The system was built on a clean separation of responsibilities across three platforms:
Platform
Role in the System
Kit (ConvertKit)
All tagging, email delivery, automation logic, and subscriber nurture
ManyChat
Instagram & Facebook lead capture only — keyword triggers DM, user clicks through to Kit form
Showit
Website domain, Kit form embeds, social links, and full pre-launch QA
Kit Account Architecture
A 27-tag system was designed from scratch to support 6 current automation pathways and the October 2026 Relationship Renewal Intensive beta launch. Tags were organized into six categories:
Global audience tags — applied to every subscriber regardless of entry point
Interest tags — tracking which lead magnets and offers each subscriber engaged with
Customer tags — applied on purchase of the Workshop or Live Q&A add-on
Completion tags — preventing duplicate automation entry across all 8 sequences
Intensive funnel tags — built and kept inactive, ready for October 2026 cohort enrollment
A key architectural decision was placing all tagging logic exclusively inside Kit. ManyChat was deliberately kept tag-free — it captures the lead and hands off to a Kit form. Kit then applies the tag and triggers the automation. This keeps the subscriber data clean, the system scalable, and future maintenance simple.
Email Sequences
All 8 sequences were built using pre-written copy provided by Jennifer. Each sequence was configured with:
Entry trigger tied to the correct tag or form submission
Appropriate send delays between emails (immediately, 2 days, 5 days, 8 days, 14 days depending on sequence)
Completion tag applied at the end of each sequence
Duplicate prevention condition at every entry point — subscribers with a completion tag cannot re-enter
Personalization using {{ subscriber.first_name | default: 'there' }} across all 45+ emails

ManyChat — Instagram & Facebook Automation
Six keyword-triggered flows were built on Instagram and Facebook, each following the same lean structure:
User comments keyword → Automatic DM → Button → Kit form → Tag applied → Automation starts
A default DM response was also configured to handle any message that doesn't match a keyword, presenting six quick-reply buttons so no engagement is lost.
One technical issue encountered during testing: ManyChat was blocking subsequent keyword triggers from the same user due to Instagram's 24-hour messaging window and flow re-entry settings. This was resolved by enabling re-entry on each flow and testing across separate accounts.

KEY TECHNICAL DECISIONS
What Made This System Work
1. Tags live in Kit only — never ManyChat
This was the single most important architectural rule. ManyChat is a lead capture tool, not a CRM. By keeping all tagging inside Kit, the subscriber data stays clean, portable, and manageable. If ManyChat were ever replaced or disconnected, the entire subscriber history and segmentation would remain intact in Kit.
2. Completion tags as duplicate prevention
Every automation has a completion tag applied at the final email. Every automation entry point checks for that completion tag before enrolling the subscriber. This means a subscriber who downloads two lead magnets will only receive each nurture sequence once — and will only receive the Newsletter Welcome sequence once, regardless of how many pathways they enter through.
3. Intensive funnel infrastructure built early
The seven Intensive funnel tags were built during the initial setup and kept inactive. This means when Jennifer is ready to open applications for the October 2026 beta cohort, the enrollment pipeline is already in place — no rebuild needed.
4. Branded email template as a Kit shell
Rather than building standalone HTML emails, a branded shell template was created using Kit's {{ message_content }} tag. This means Jennifer can write and edit emails using Kit's native editor while every email automatically carries the Lifespan Parenting visual identity — dark forest green header, Cormorant Garamond typography, warm cream background, and gold accent details pulled from the Showit site.
RESULTS & OUTCOMES
What Jennifer Received
At delivery, the Lifespan Parenting marketing ecosystem was fully operational:
A subscriber who comments TRANSITION on an Instagram post receives a DM, clicks through to a Kit form, gets tagged, receives the Assessment Guide, and enters a 4-email nurture sequence — fully automated
A subscriber who purchases the First Semester Survival Guide Workshop is immediately tagged, enrolled in a 4-email onboarding sequence, and if they added the Live Q&A, automatically tagged and enrolled in a second sequence — with Engaged-Customer applied when both purchases are confirmed
Every subscriber, regardless of entry point, flows into the newsletter audience without receiving duplicate welcome emails
The Relationship Renewal Intensive interest list is live and collecting subscribers ahead of the October 2026 beta launch
The Showit website is live on Jennifer's domain with all forms tested, social profiles connected, and mobile QA complete
The system was designed to scale. Future lead magnets, webinars, or programs can be added by creating a new tag, a new form, and a new sequence — the architecture supports growth without restructuring.
