Original Score Composition for 'TORMENT'

“TORMENT” is a psychological drama, horror, and fantasy film produced by Tri-Weave Studio.

The story follows a college graduate who ventures into a supernatural, nightmarish town in search of his missing friend. But her refusal to leave—and the two monstrous beings guarding her- traps him in a spiralling descent of fear, obsession, and impossible choices.

For TORMENT, I created an unsettling original score inspired by Akira Yamaoka’s Silent Hill soundtracks and liminal space ambience. The goal was to build an oppressive, uncanny atmosphere that reflected the blurred line between reality, nightmare, and emotional trauma.

Composed the entire original score using Ableton Live

Designed liminal ambience layers: detuned pads, stretched samples, distant industrial textures

Created distorted melodic motifs echoing the protagonist’s inner turmoil

Used unconventional instrumentation (metal scraping, processed noise, tape warping) for monster cues

Built transitions between psychological drama and horror sequences with dynamic sound shifts

Worked closely with the director to time audio with narrative pacing and visual unease

This project pushed me further into horror and psychological scoring techniques, teaching me how to use sound as disorientation, not just accompaniment. I deepened my understanding of liminal soundscapes and how silence, distortion, and ambiguity can be as powerful as melody in storytelling.
