Overview While working at Wholegrain Digital, a trendy London-based web agency specializing in sustainable web design, I led the branding and website design for a climate-focused charity. The project involved running discovery and UX workshops to create an accessible and user-friendly experience, ensuring the brand's message aligned with their mission. The client, a key player in combating climate change, needed a strong digital presence that resonated with environmentally conscious audiences while maintaining accessibility and visual appeal.
Project Goals The client’s main objectives were to:
Develop a new brand identity that reflects their mission to fight climate change
Build a smart and accessible user experience that engages diverse audiences
Create a creative user interface that balances modern design with sustainability
Ensure the website is optimized for accessibility and performance, with a focus on eco-friendly web practices
Process Breakdown
Discovery & UX Workshop The project began with a discovery session and UX workshop where we explored the client's goals, target audience, and the impact they sought to achieve. Through detailed exercises, we defined user personas and identified key pain points, allowing us to design a platform that addressed specific needs like donation facilitation, volunteering, and resource sharing.
Key Deliverables:
Detailed user personas reflecting the charity’s various stakeholders
User journeys focused on simplifying key actions like donating and accessing resources
Strategic UX blueprint for seamless navigation and interaction
Branding & Visual Identity Next, I worked on crafting a brand identity that would reflect the charity’s climate-focused mission. The visual identity included a fresh logo, earthy tones, and clean typography. The design echoed the charity’s core values of sustainability and action, helping them stand out in the environmental sector.
Key Deliverables:
A logo that symbolized environmental activism and sustainability
A cohesive color palette and typography that aligned with nature and trustworthiness
Brand guidelines for consistent use across digital and physical platforms
User Interface Design I designed a creative and accessible user interface, ensuring that the web experience was both visually compelling and user-friendly. Using Figma, I developed high-fidelity mockups of key pages, including the homepage and donation sections. Accessibility was a priority, ensuring the design could be easily navigated by all users, including those with disabilities.

High-fidelity mockups for core pages, such as the homepage, donation, and resource hubs
A responsive design that adapted fluidly across devices
Accessibility features such as screen reader compatibility and adaptable contrast modes
Sustainability & Performance True to Wholegrain Digital’s focus on sustainable web design, I ensured the site was optimized for low energy consumption and minimal environmental impact. This involved reducing unnecessary assets, optimizing images, and using efficient code to make the website lighter and faster, while still delivering a high-quality user experience.

Comprehensive performance testing to ensure accessibility and eco-friendliness
Results The final website was a sustainable, accessible, and visually striking platform that successfully reflected the charity’s mission. The new branding resonated with the target audience, and the user-friendly interface improved engagement, driving an increase in donations and community involvement.

Conclusion This project highlights how sustainable branding and UX/UI design can create a powerful digital presence. By aligning modern design with eco-friendly practices, I helped this charity maximize its impact while minimizing its digital footprint, enabling it to engage more effectively with environmentally conscious audiences.
