Blind Alley Pictures: an animation studio's site

The idea

Blind Alley Pictures is a Glasgow animation studio that draws every frame by hand, in pencil and cut paper. Craft like that is best judged by watching it happen, so the website plays like one of their films: a noir about one missing frame, told in six scenes.

What visitors do

Each scroll is a new shot. A strip of film along the bottom counts the frames as you go; the missing one shows as a red gap and only fills in when the case is closed. On desktop the cursor is a magnifying glass: inside it, the same live 3D scene is redrawn in pencil with the detective's notes, so you see the drawing behind the picture. The contact form is the next case file, written in the detective's voice. On a phone, each scene is reframed for a tall screen.

Why it matters for a brand

If what you sell is work people need to see, a site made like that work lets them see it the moment they land, instead of taking your word for it.
