Reimagining Ginkgo Bioworks as a consumer-facing synthetic biology brand

The Organism Company

This project explores how Ginkgo Bioworks could evolve from a B2B synthetic biology platform into a consumer-facing longevity company. By combining mythic storytelling, ritualized product experiences, and a more human visual language, The Organism Company makes biotechnology feel tangible, desirable, and part of everyday life.

Biotech didn’t feel consumer-ready

Biotech often appears sterile, inaccessible, and overly technical. The challenge was to design a brand system that:
Made advanced science feel human, timeless, and aspirational.

Brand Story

Synthetic biology marks a modern Age of Enlightenment, where the once-dreamt alchemy of life is now at our fingertips. It’s an era of discovery and innovation, bridging ancient wisdom with groundbreaking science, guiding humanity towards a future where the mysteries of life and health are illuminated and mastered.

Context

A voyage brand built at the intersection of luxury, transformation, and interplanetary aspiration. Titian frames travel to Mars not as transit alone, but as preparation, education, and emotional arrival.

Strategy

The rebrand shifts Ginkgo from invisible platform science to visible consumer meaning. Instead of presenting synthetic biology as distant or highly technical, The Organism Company translates it into a system of products, rituals, and experiences that make biotechnology feel personal, trusted, and culturally resonant.
The system was structured around three values:
Elysian: Frames the brand through vitality, serenity, and the enduring pursuit of health.
GeneCraft: Positions personalization and scientific precision as a tailored consumer experience.
Mythos: Transforms complex science into a narrative of renewal, discovery, and collective aspiration.

Value System

The Organism Company is guided by three values that shape how synthetic biology is translated for consumers. Elysian brings serenity, aspiration, and the promise of lasting vitality. GeneCraft emphasizes precision, personalization, and the tailored potential of biotechnology. Mythos frames the brand through story, turning scientific transformation into a more emotionally resonant journey. Together, these values make the system feel elevated, personal, and culturally legible.

Applications

Where the identity moves from concept into experience. Across digital touchpoints, packaging systems, skincare, and future retail environments, The Organism Company turns synthetic biology into something consumers can see, hold, and understand.

Digital & Social

Instagram campaign posts, paid social advertisements, product education graphics, mobile-first brand touchpoint.

Brand Identity

The brand balances myth and modernity. Classical visual references bring familiarity, legacy, and cultural depth, while biotech cues introduce precision, innovation, and transformation. Together, they make synthetic biology feel less distant and more human, framing science not as a cold system, but as a new chapter in the long pursuit of vitality.

The Logo

The DNA mark condenses the brand into a single recognizable symbol. It carries the scientific core of the company while becoming flexible enough to appear across packaging, digital touchpoints, campaigns, and future retail environments. Over time, it allows the brand to signal Organism Company even when the full logotype is absent.

Brand System

The Organism Company’s visual system translates synthetic biology into something consumers can feel. By pairing classical references with sharper scientific cues, the identity turns advanced biotech into a world that feels both aspirational and understandable.
