Children's Digital Safety Book Design

Project Overview Connected and Safe Online Adventures is a children's digital safety book designed to help young people understand how to navigate the internet safely and responsibly. The book was created for children, parents, and educators across Africa to build awareness about online risks while promoting positive digital citizenship. I designed the book layout and visual structure to make complex digital safety topics easy to understand for young readers aged 9–16. The goal was to create an engaging educational resource that combines storytelling, learning activities, and practical safety tips.

The Problem Children are accessing the internet earlier than ever before, but many lack the knowledge and guidance needed to navigate the digital world safely. Issues such as: • Cyberbullying • Online predators • Digital privacy risks • Misinformation • Social media pressure are increasingly affecting young users. Despite these risks, very few child-friendly digital safety resources exist that reflect African contexts and experiences. The challenge was to design a learning material that is educational, relatable, and engaging for African children.

My Role I worked as the Brand Designer, Book Designer, and Layout Designer for the project. My responsibilities included: • Developing the visual identity of the book • Designing the book cover and internal pages • Creating a structured layout system for readability • Organizing the content into clear, engaging sections • Designing interactive pages, quizzes, and activity sections • Ensuring the design was child-friendly, engaging, and educational

Impact and Purpose The book supports the mission of Webfala Digital Skills for all Initiative, which promotes digital literacy and online safety across Nigeria and Africa. The goal of the project is to: • Help children build safe digital habits • Encourage responsible online behavior • Support parents and teachers in guiding children online • Raise awareness about online threats affecting young people

Final Outcome The final product is a comprehensive digital safety guide designed specifically for African children. The book combines storytelling, education, and activities to create an engaging learning experience that helps young readers become safe, smart, and responsible digital citizens.
