Building an AI-Powered Invoicing Mobile App with TempoLabs

What started as a small experiment quickly evolved into a fully functional invoicing mobile app designed, developed, and shipped entirely within Tempo (YC S23), without touching Figma once.

This project became an exploration of how far AI-driven design tools have come in 2025, and how much they can accelerate real product creation.

I wanted to see whether a modern AI-powered platform like Tempo could handle the full lifecycle of a product:

UX/UI design

End-to-end logic

Database integrations

Mobile responsiveness

Visual styling and component generation

All without external tools, plugins, or traditional design workflows.

The Process

The first hour was spent understanding how Tempo “thinks” how to structure prompts, how to guide component generation, and how to nudge the system toward the visual style I envisioned.

Once I aligned my prompting style with the platform’s logic, the build process shifted from friction to flow.

I skipped traditional design files entirely. Instead, I designed directly in Tempo using:

iterative prompts

live component adjustments

in-platform layout tuning

The goal was something funky, colorful, and retro, and Tempo handled the aesthetic direction surprisingly well.

Although designers don’t typically handle backend architecture, integrating Supabase for:

clients

invoices

wallets

Tempo + Supabase worked together seamlessly:

CRUD operations worked on first try

relationships synced correctly

logic executed predictably

No custom plugins. No third-party tools. No code.

By hour eight, the app supported:

Creating / editing clients

Generating and managing invoices

Wallet management

Functional end-to-end logic

Everything ran directly on mobile with live previews.

Payment schema integrations will roll out next planned as the second phase of the project.

This project pushed me to rethink what a “design workflow” even is and how AI-driven platforms can fundamentally reshape product development.
