AI Editorial Art Direction Studies — Issue 01: Extra Celestial

I directed, generated, and curated an entire speculative civilization — then shipped it as a brand system a team can operate.

A civilization, on purpose

This is Issue 01 of my art-direction practice: I take a cultural trend and build it into a complete, operable brand world. Extra Celestial imagines a generation romanticizing life beyond Earth — I designed everything its luxury brand would need to exist. The world is the proof. The method is what's for hire.

Nothing renders before the rules

Most AI projects fail at the brief — they generate before they define. I don't. I run a deliberate workflow that separates strategy from execution: first the positioning, voice, and rules; then the world; then the system that makes it repeatable. The strategy is why the images cohere — not the tools.

Every frame, by my hand

Every asset in this Issue is mine. I generated and curated every image and every motion clip — covers, plates, the recurring motifs, the Aman and Mugler campaigns, the films. I wrote the prompts, set one visual standard, and cut everything that missed it. AI is my instrument; the direction, the system, and the selection are the work.

Two moods, one world, one rule

I gave the civilization two atmospheric registers — Cobalt Mode (vacuum, signal, chrome) and Iridescent Mode (the dawn register — pearl, lilac, refraction) — sharing one warm pulse, one accent per spread. One world, two moods, one rule. Seven recurring artifacts — the visor, the white horse, the sphere — hold it together across every frame.

The system, not a moodboard

Most brand guidelines ship as a PDF. I ship a URL you can run. I built Extra Celestial as three coordinated files — an HTML guideline for people, a tokens.json for design tools and code, and a machine-readable brief for AI — plus a prompting library so the world keeps generating. Primitive → semantic → component tokens, dual-mode. The brand isn't a folder. It's a system you operate.

Off the page, into the brand

To prove the system holds under load, I extended it into two speculative anchors: Aman × Extra Celestial (hospitality — arrival, corridor, suite, spa) and Mugler × Extra Celestial (a speculative SS27 campaign). Same world, new context. The architecture of restraint, past Earth.
